An Adventure Gone Wrong! Part-1

Lost in a dense forest….Its raining cats and dogs……Suddenly there is a flash flood……Nobody around to help us out…..Almost about to fall from the cliff into the gushing river….. Drowned in…….

Hello everybody,
This is Parth here. I have recently started my travel blog website. I have completed my graduation a year ago and since then have my own business and also completing my post graduation from the university. I have always been a very avid traveller and have always looked out for adventures. Now having a busy schedules restricts me from travelling and doing adventures so frequently so to stay connected with those adventures and trips I thought of sharing my travel experiences and other adventures related stuff to all you guys. Hope you guys like it and you can support me by following my blogs and other social media handles.

27th June 2019, Thursday, monsoon had just set in here at Mumbai. The weather was nice and cool after the scorching heat of summer. It showered heavily for a couple of days and being a nature as well as adventure lover, I could’nt resist myself to go for one. There are lots of hills on the outskirts of Mumbai and during monsoon there are lots of waterfalls here. One can never resist to go to waterfalls in monsoon and so could’nt I.

A little discussion with my college friends Rohan, Vishal & Tanmoy, we decided to go to Chinchoti Waterfalls on the coming Sunday. It is situated near Vasai, Mumbai. It is a quite popular in monsoon and attracts a lot of visitors as it is a seasonal waterfall.

The excitement in me increased more and more for the next two days. In those two days we did a little bit of R & D about the place since none of us had visited that place before. Next morning 29th June, it was raining like cats and dogs. Mumbai was on a high alert for heavy rains. Weather was little scary and but for me the scarier part was our trip getting cancelled. Its very rare that a planned trip is successful, everytime we plan out somehow it gets cancelled. Inside I was constantly praying that this time it shouldn’t get cancelled. Everyone of us were so excited that we decide to keep on with the plan. After completing my office work I went to Vishal’s place for a sleepover as he was alone at home and we had to leave early in the morning. Just chilled out for a while and then went to sleep. Honestly speaking both of us could’nt sleep so well because we were so excited for the next day. It rained the whole night. We could hear the raindrops crashing on to the roof outside the window.

The alarm rang and it was 4:00 in the morning. We woke up excited and our adrenaline pumped up for some crazy adventure even after 2 to 3 hours of sleep. The rain outside had haulted for a while seeing which we had a big smile on our faces. We called Rohan and Tanmoy as decided to meet but no answers from Tanmoy. After half an hour of continuous calls finally he picked up at 5 oclock. Things were positive and we were all ready to leave. We were going by our bikes. Rohan and I on one bike and Vishal and Tanmoy on the other. We refueled our vehicles and hit the roads.

Chinchoti Waterfall is about 55 to 60kms from our place that is about 1 and a half hours ride. After some 25 to 30 minutes it again started raining very heavily. It was pitch black outside and also very windy. It was getting difficult to see ahead on the road. Everything looked blurry and since it was dark we could hardly see 50 meters ahead of us. At that time we didnt really thought of the High Alert but we didnt knew what was waiting for us ahead. Maybe it was a crazy decision but I believe everything happens for a good reason. It was getting more difficult to ride. The raindrops were hitting us like someone poking pins all over our body but as the saying goes ‘No Pain, No Gain’, sounds very cliched. After a while we took a short break, refreshed ourselves and also confirmed the route with a local guy. Finally the rain turned into drizzle and we left for our destination.

By 8 oclock we reached to the base village Chinchoti. It is a beautiful village lush greenery all around covered with mountains in the backdrop. The view just took us and we could just not wait to move ahead. From here it was around 2hrs trek to the waterfall. We parked our bikes at the village and began trekking. From the R & D we knew that it wasn’t an easy trek. We were hungry and didnt had any breakfast but we carried some snacks with us. Since we were on a delayed schedule we thought of eating it while we trek up. The village was on the foothill and as we crossed it there were some green patches like a farming land. As we were crossing it, two cows suddenly got angry and attacked us from right. It was scary but a villager standing near by came to our rescue. He also helped us with the route as we were going in a wrong direction. We walked in the correct direction a little ahead and we found the trail that had to be followed.

Views from Chinchoti Village

As we trek ahead we noticed there were lots of little crabs all around us. From anywhere we could easily spot atleast 10 crabs around us. The trail started getting dark and denser with the trees as we climbed up the hill and not much later we were away from the open lands and into the forest. The villager had instructed us to just go straight on the trail, no left, no right and we had that into our mind. But along with the density of the forest the crabs were also increasing and Vishal was so scared of crabs. He screamed everytime he saw a crab. And all the way we made fun of him. We were laughing and enjoying our journey remembering our good old college days, happy about finally being so close to the place we all wanted to come to.

The atmosphere in that forest was completely different. The aroma of the wet soil, chirping of birds, pleasant sound of raining, lushy green trees, wild flowers, everything was so beautiful, serene and peaceful. Along the route we crossed a few water streams, some were big and little deeper and some were small and shallower. It was almost an hour now since we started trekking and took a water break. Its necessary to keep ourselves hydrated and in cool weather we often drink less as we dont feel thirsty. From what we had known from google the place was a popular tourist attraction but until now we didnt see anyone around us. Just four of us and that place was very isolated. It would be just impossible to find some help out there and it was a little scary. But we didnt discuss about it just to avoid any negative thoughts.

Soon our trail turned towards a big water stream going upwards parallel to the stream. We thought that we are very close to the waterfall finally and we got motivated and picked up our speed. But we didnt knew all that motivation was soon gonna crash. Slowly the trail started getting thinner and disappeared and the only way up was from the stream as so did we go. After a while of walking in the middle of the stream bigger stones came ahead we crossed them some how and soon found that the way up was impossible.

We understood that waterfall couldnt be up there bcoz we couldnt hear any sound of it. We realised we were lost. Just four of us, all alone, isolated in the dense forest with no signs of anybody else nearby. We were scared but did not panic. All that was going in my mind was where did we miss the route. We were tired and took a break before we started our journey back. Rohan Tanmoy And I were chilled but Vishal was very scared. We calmed him down somehow rehydrated ourselves and thought of returning back. All our excitement just vanished. We were sad, we so wanted to reach out to the waterfall but we were lost and nobody around to help us.

But may be it was our lucky day. Out of nowhere we saw a ray of hope!
